LeapFrog My Own Leaptop Customer’s Review:
Below is Amanda comment about his LeapFrog My Own Leaptop review :
I got this for my 8 month old baby girl who was obsessed with Mommy and Daddy’s laptops, and we’ve now had it for several months. We’re incredibly pleased with this product. While she still prefers our computers, this consistently holds her attention for up to an hour at a time (she’s now 12mos old). The older she gets, the more she loves it. I’ve also noticed that older kids seem to like it too…my friend’s 6yr old had a great time “helping” her play with it.
Here are some points of interest that we’ve encountered:
Durability: A friend’s toddler was walking around, picking it up and dropping it on tile repeatedly. He did it several times before I was able to get it from him. Also, I noticed that my baby seems to be particularly fond of stomping on the keys instead of using her hands to press them. She also likes to set it on the floor and put half her weight on the keyboard with one hand and half on the screen with the other. Doing this, I’m surprised she hasn’t busted the hinge. To this date, it works perfectly (except for a slight rattle when you shake it).
Education: I don’t think the makers of this product intended it to take the place of parent/teacher instruction. I think the people who are dissatisfied with the educational value of it have too-high expectations. For how much my baby loves this toy, I’m incredibly pleased that there is ANY redeeming educational value to it at all. Yes, there is definitely room for improvement here, but at this age of her development, she’s just happy experiencing the cause and effect relationship between pressing the keys and watching something happen on the display screen.
Customization: I love that this toy lets you customize it to your child. I haven’t tried all the song options, but from what I can tell, only the alphabet song has words to it. She clearly prefers that one, but I also like her being exposed to classical music, so I don’t mind too much. The pronunciation of her name is a little weird. Her name is Josephine (JO-sa-feen), but it pronounces it “JO-sa-FEEEEN).
All in all, this toy has proven itself to be the “go-to” toy when we need her to amuse herself for a while. My tolerance for musical/talking toys is extremely low, and I don’t find this toy the least bit annoying. I do wish the screen was backlit, but I’ve noticed that toys designed for young kids never have backlit screens. I don’t know if there is some reason for that. A couple of weeks ago, we noticed that it started skipping and only half-working. I thought it was broken (due to the rough treatment by the kiddos), but found that it only needed new batteries. LeapFrog Com My Own Leaptop I had already decided that it was WELL worth the price to invest in a new one if the batteries didn’t do the trick. The fact that it’s still ticking just made me love it all the more.
